I have recently aquired a older Jiffy model 30, 10" ice auger. It will start but it wont stay running. Also it is leaking gas from what I guess is the bowl on the carb. There is a square plate with 4 screws with what appears to be a gasket betwen the cover and the Carb bowl. The screws are tight....

I have a Tecumseh 3 hp Jiffy Ice auger and can't get it adjusted
Jiffy Ice Auger Model 31 xt, it is an TC engine 3 hp. it has two adjustment screws on the side. After starting the engine and letting it idle for 30 seconds I try and drill my first hole the auger cuts about a few inches then dies. It does not like to have the throttle wide open. When it comes up to the right speed it only last for a few seconds.

RE: Jiffy auger won't stay running As the following post suggests, it is likely that you simply have a matter of gunk in the passages that need to get cleaned out. The thing that is happening when you pump the diaphram is that you are incareasing the pressure in the carb.

Not sure what model he's going to get (he's leaning electric) but I told him that since so many guys are upgrading to the new Solo motors, a used 2hp Techumseh SM are easy to find for around $200-250. That's the way I would go. Hope this helps, good luck.

How about another Jiffy Model 30 question...about 12 years old too. It starts great, idles great, but for the first two or three holes, it dies after about 7 seconds of cutting. This happens over and over, while I "fix" the problem by hitting the primer a couple times. Is this a lack of idling warm up period? I usually idle it for 1-2 minutes.
